Moving out of a flat in the Square Mile
The City of London is mostly offices. The 2021 Census counted around 8,600 residents, against more than 590,000 people who work here. Those residents live mainly in one and two bedroom flats, grouped in four estates (the Barbican, Golden Lane, Middlesex Street and Mansell Street) and in smaller pockets around Smithfield, the Temples, Fleet Street, Carter Lane and Queenhithe.
Many Barbican flats are let by their leaseholders rather than by the City Corporation, so private tenancies and agent check-outs are routine there. Tips for your end of tenancy cleaning in City of London
- Ask your agent for the check-in inventory and read it before the clean. Marks recorded on the first day should not be charged to you at the end, and knowing them saves an argument later.

It depends on two things: the flat was already empty of your belongings when we cleaned, and nobody used it after we left. On the Barbican, that means the removal is finished before we arrive. If the check-out is some days away, an optional 7-day reporting window costs £59.
Do you charge by the hour for a move-out clean?
No. It is a one-off clean at a fixed price for the size of the property, not a timed booking. For most City flats that means the studio or one bedroom row on our price list, and anything larger is priced on the full list. Carpet or upholstery cleaning costs more, and we confirm the total before the day.
Should I book the clean before or after the Barbican removal van?
After. The guarantee depends on the flat being empty, and a removal often leaves dust, packing scraps and scuffs behind. On the Barbican, moves are arranged with the Lobby Porter or Car Park Attendant, usually between 8am and sunset. Fix the van first, then book the clean for the next slot after it leaves.
