Putney by the river: what shapes a clean here

Putney sits at the western end of Wandsworth's riverside, all within SW15. Putney station, at the top of the High Street, has South Western Railway trains to Waterloo, and East Putney is on the District line. Putney Bridge tube station, confusingly, stands across the Thames in Fulham. An address described as near Putney Bridge could be in SW15 or SW6, so give us the full postcode when you book.

The housing changes as you move away from the water. Edwardian mansion blocks line Lower Richmond Road, the late Victorian houses on Deodar Road have gardens running down to the Thames, and the flats above the High Street shops look straight onto a busy bus route. In 2017 the High Street became London's first low emission bus zone, after recording 1,248 hourly breaches of the legal nitrogen dioxide limit in 2016. Expect sills and window frames on that stretch to need more time than those on quiet side roads.

The river also shapes moving day. The parking bays on Putney Embankment, upstream of the bridge, flood on some high tides, so check the tide table before leaving a car or van there. On Boat Race day each spring the council suspends parking on the Embankment and closes the residential roads between it and Lower Richmond Road to all but residents. SW15 is one of the districts where SW Clean works most, so we plan around both.

End of Tenancy Cleaning · Fixed price from £120

End of tenancy cleaning in Putney flats and mansion blocks

Putney rentals range from Edwardian mansion flats near the river to one-bedroom flats above the High Street shops, and each has its own weak spots. A mansion flat with a stone balcony needs the balcony added as an extra, with the balcony doors cleaned inside and out. A flat above a shop often has street-facing windows dulled by bus traffic and a private staircase up from a side door, and both are usually part of what you hand back.

The price is fixed by bedrooms and bathrooms before the day: £150 for a studio, £199 for one bedroom and £239 for two bedrooms with one bathroom. It covers products, equipment and the oven inside and out. If the agent or landlord reports something we missed within 72 hours of the end of the clean, we return and fix it free of charge, provided the property stayed empty and unused after we left.

Tip: Moving out near the river? Avoid Boat Race day for the van, and if you plan to park on Putney Embankment, check the tide times first so the vehicle is not left standing in floodwater.

Deep Cleaning · £23 per hour, minimum 3 hours

Deep cleaning Putney's riverside houses and period flats

The houses on Deodar Road and the family homes across the West Putney conservation area are large, and a deep clean of one usually runs well past the 3-hour minimum. A four-bedroom house typically takes 8–12 hours in total (£184–£276). From 6 hours the job is shared by two cleaners, so a six-hour clean means three hours each on site. Products and equipment are included, at £23 per cleaner per hour.

Flats in the older mansion blocks have their own pattern. Kitchens and bathrooms have often been refitted around original walls and floors, and grease and limescale gather where old meets new: along worktop edges, around taps and in the grout beside the bath. Those rooms get the most time, and we work from ceiling height down, finishing with the floors so nothing settles on them afterwards. If anything is missed, report it within 24 hours and we come back to put it right.

Tip: Clear windowsills, shelves and the tops of wardrobes before the cleaners arrive. In tall Putney rooms these hold the most dust, and clear surfaces let the cleaners reach them quickly.

Home Cleaning · From £17 per hour, minimum 2 hours

A regular cleaner in Putney, SW15

Putney is familiar ground for our regular cleaners. On a weekly or fortnightly plan you keep the same cleaner every visit, at £17 an hour with a 2-hour minimum. A one-bedroom flat usually takes 2–3 hours a visit (£34–£51), and a three-bedroom house takes 3–5 hours (£51–£85). Less frequent plans cost £18 an hour every three weeks and £19 monthly. If your week changes, you can move or cancel a visit free of charge with 48 hours' notice.

Homes close to the river or Putney Lower Common pick up mud quickly, from the Thames Path along the Embankment or a walk across the common, so entrance halls and kitchen floors get attention on every visit. Your cleaner works with your own products and equipment; if you would rather we supplied them, it is a one-off £7 for products and £23 for equipment. Ironing can be added to any visit at £17 an hour.

Tip: If you live above a shop on the High Street, ask for the street-facing sills and window frames to be wiped on every visit. Traffic grime builds there faster than anywhere else in the flat.

Homes we clean

Putney properties and what we focus on

Kenilworth Court, Lower Richmond Road

Built between 1902 and 1906, Kenilworth Court holds 150 flats in eight mansion blocks, with Dutch gables and bracketed stone balconies. In flats like these we allow time for the balcony doors and window frames when we suggest hours for a deep or end of tenancy clean.

Manor Fields, Putney Hill

John Laing built this private estate of 230 homes in the 1930s in an Arts and Crafts Tudor style, as 14 blocks named after Oxford and Cambridge colleges, set in landscaped grounds. A regular clean of a two-bedroom flat here usually takes 3–4 hours.

Deodar Road, by the Thames

Built just after 1896, mostly by one Fulham firm, these houses have long back gardens that run down to the river, a layout the council calls unique in Wandsworth. Garden doors bring in leaves and soil, so the back door and kitchen floor get extra time.

Every client gets a free client portal to see visits, before and after photos and invoices, leave notes for the cleaner and message our office.

FAQ

Cleaning in Putney: questions

Do you clean on both sides of Putney Bridge?

Yes. Putney Bridge tube station is on the Fulham side, in SW6, and we clean there as well as in Putney, SW15. Both are among the districts where we work most. Give your full postcode when you book, so the cleaner heads to the right side of the river.

Can I book a clean in Putney on Boat Race day?

Yes, cleaners work from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. On race day, though, Putney Embankment parking is suspended and the roads linking the Embankment to Lower Richmond Road are closed to traffic apart from residents. If you live in those streets, pick another day or tell us about access when you book.

I rent a flat above a shop on Putney High Street. Is anything different?

The price is the same as for any flat of that size, from £150 for a studio. The street side of these flats faces constant bus traffic, so sills, frames and the inside of the glass carry more grime, and we plan time for them. Tell us if you reach the flat through a side or rear door.

Can you clean flats in Putney's mansion blocks and 1930s estates?

Yes. We clean flats in any block, from Edwardian mansion blocks such as Kenilworth Court to the 1930s flats at Manor Fields. If a porter or managing agent needs to know who is coming, give us their details when you book so our cleaners are expected at the door.

How much is a regular cleaner in Putney?

It is £17 an hour on a weekly or fortnightly plan, £18 every three weeks, £19 monthly and £19 for a one-off visit. Every visit lasts at least 2 hours and you keep the same cleaner on a regular plan. We confirm the slot and the total before the first clean.
